Description
A kiwi bird from New Zealand. The kiwi is the smallest member of the ratite group (ostriches, emus, rheas, cassowaries, etc.). It is the last living relic of the wingless or nearly wingless family of New Zealand birds known as the Moa. The Moa included the largest ratite species to have ever existed. The kiwi itself has wing buds that are completely invisible underneath its feathers, but it might as well be as wingless as its extinct elephant-sized cousins. Its cuteness alone probably kept it from being hunted to extinction along with said giant avians.
